Tenitra Allison Oates - Owner/Director

A native of Charlotte, NC, Tenitra has been dancing for over 29 years.  She has studied various styles of dance including Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Lyrical and Liturgical, and has trained with great talents such as Debbie Allen, Jason Samuels Smith, Frank Hatchett, Shelia Barker, Jackie Patterson, Mike Minery, Tommy Retter, and many more.  As a young competitive performer, Tenitra received over 150 first place and championship awards.  In 1995, she was the recipient of a “Success America ” dance scholarship to New York City. 

Tenitra attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she received a BA degree in Communications in 1997.  During college, she was very competitive in pageantry and won several titles including Miss UNC-Charlotte 49er 1995, Miss Charlotte-Mecklenburg 1996, and she was a semi-finalist in Miss North Carolina USA in 1996.  While in college, Tenitra also choreographed routines for several pageants and competitive high school dance teams.  She is currently a board member and choreographer for the Miss Mecklenburg County Pageant.  Tenitra has also done commercial work for Basset Furniture, Harris Teeter, Wachovia and many more.

Tenitra has been choreographing and teaching competitive dance for the past 17 years.  Some of her students have gone on to become professional dancers in various places such as;   Guatemala, Spain,  New York City and the Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee. Tenitra is best known for her tap choreography.  Her dances have earned her several ‘Choreography’ and ‘Championship’ awards in the Mini, Junior, Teen and Senior age categories at local and national competitions.     

Tenitra currently resides in Charlotte, NC with her husband Carlos and 2 sons, Daylen and Camden.  Her motto is to "live by the 3D’s: Dedication, Determination and Discipline."  She encourages all of her students to live by this motto and strive to become their very best.

Skyla Caldwell - Ballet Mistress                      

Skyla Caldwell, A.R.A.D (Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance) -  Ms. Caldwell trained at the Charlotte School of Ballet under Gay Porter Speer and The Point Park Conservatory in Pittsburgh, PA as a scholarship student under the direction of Roberto Munoz.  She has danced for the North Carolina Dance Theater as an apprentice under Salvatore Aiello and  Jerri Kumery.   Ms. Caldwell has also danced at the National Ballet of Cuba under Laura Alonzo in Havana, Cuba and is associated with the Royal Academy of Dance in in London.   She has also danced with the Moving Poets Theater of Dance for the last 8 years and is currently Ballet Mistress for The Union County Youth Ballet in Monroe N.C. Ms. Caldwell is also the Founder and Artistic Director of her own Company Studio 7 Dance Theater in Charlotte, N.C.

 

 

Taylor Sease - Instructor  

Taylor Sease was born and raised in Charlotte, NC.  Taylor began dancing at the age of two and has danced for 23 years.  She is trained in contemporary, tap, jazz and ballet. Taylor formally assisted in office management and choreographed at her mothers’ dance studio, Visions Dance Academy, for 9 years.  She was well liked among all her former students and was determined to better their own dance talents.   Her former competition students can be viewed on halloffamedance.com, showstopperonline.com, and VIPdanceonline.com. Her dancers also performed in a half time show at the Bobcats Arena.

Taylor spent most of her dancing career traveling the East coast at both regional and national competitions.  She has worked with many choreographers such as Jason Parsons, Mark Marino, Tabitha and Napoleon D’Umo, Tommy Retter, Liz Imperio, Joey Tarwater, Nick DiNicolangelo, Nick Zborowski, Jeremy Keeton, Chris Jacobsen, Chris Dupree, Ryan Cyphert, Nick Bass, Nick Watkins, Shayna Fink and many more. Taylor has achieved many platinum awards, along with scholarships and cash prizes in the competitive world.  As a top soloist, she has won many titles such as: Miss Superstar, Miss Nexstar, Miss Starquest, 1st runner up Miss Global, and 1st runner up Miss Dance USA. Taylor was an apprentice for Mark Marino’s, The American Dance Company, where she danced at NYC’s Duke Theater on 42nd street.  Taylor was also hired from a marketing agency, The Brand Movement, to perform a tap routine at many set locations to promote their products.

Dancing is her passion and teaching is her skill! She enjoys challenging her students to do their best and inspires them to be better, not only in dance but in life.  Taylor teaches her students to dance from the heart and always give it their all.

                                                                                                   

 

Kyla Acie - Instructor

Kyla Acie, originally from Maryland , began her dancing career by being accepted to a Visual and Performing Arts Magnet- Elementary, Middle and High School. Dancing both in and out of school she was introduced to Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Pointe, Lyrical, African and Modern dance styles through various workshops, summer programs and competitions. She decided to continue her love of dance after receiving an apprenticeship and academic scholarship to attend Point Park ’s Conservatory for Performing Arts now Point Park University in Pittsburgh , Pa. Kyla received a degree in Arts Management with a minor in dance. She continued her studies and received an MBA with a concentration in Management. During the summer of 2000 Kyla received an internship with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater where she worked directly under the Company Manager and assisted with the planning and scheduling of the first company’s international tour and summer performance at Lincoln Theater. While in Pittsburgh Kyla danced and performed with Xpressions Dance Company, Umoja African Arts Company and the Shona Sharif African Drum and Dance Ensemble at the University of Pittsburgh . Kyla also starred as Mary in the African-American version of the Christmas classic Black Nativity.

Kyla and her husband Matthew relocated to Charlotte , NC in 2005. She now works for the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte where she enjoys advising and teaching Introduction to Business to freshman and sophomore business majors.

Kyla now shares her love of dance with her 3 year old daughter Sydney, who is beginning her 3rd year of dance with Precision Dance Center this fall.
